BIRTH Skills workshop
This is a physiotherapy class covering pregnancy, birth and beyond. Our goal is for every woman have a positive birth and postpartum experience and to support you in the birth of your choice and prepare you with the knowledge to make your postpartum recovery better.
In our birth skills class we talk about skills you can use for birth. Your labour toolkit and which tools work for you.
We cover :
THE 3RD TRIMESTER: PREPARE
Pregnancy:
- How to look after your body during pregnancy. We address Alignment (Posture), Breathing, the core 4 muscles and getting familiar with your pelvic floor.
- Current exercise guidelines for pregnancy.
- How to prevent and manage some common pregnancy aches and pains
- How to minimise and control abdominal separation
- Ways prepare your pelvic floor for birth. Perineal massage hip openers, Pelvic floor stretches, relaxation and breathing strategies.
Birth:
- You will learn optimal positions and movements for labour and how to maximise the space in your pelvis to help your baby exit your body.
- Techniques for managing pain. including TENS
- Breathing for labour.
- Pelvic floor relaxation and visualisation
- How to push effectively – optimal pushing biomechanics.
- Ways your Birth partner can support you including labour massage.
These techniques will help to improve your overall birth experience and may reduce the length of the active pushing and reduce the severity of perineal tearing.
THE 4TH TRIMESTER : RESTORE
Women often feel unprepared for this time and say I wish I had of known that before birth but you don’t know what you don’t know. This part of the class will help you prepare for your early postpartum recovery. We will cover
- The first 72 hour including care of the perineum and pelvic floor, the first wee and poo.
- Recovery from Caesarean Birth including scar massage.
- Diastasis Recti rehab.
- Breastfeeding ergonomics and stretches for the feeding mum.
- Postpartum Sex
- The first 6 weeks
- The 6 week check up
- 6-12 weeks
- Guidelines on returning to impact sports and lifting safely
Wear comfy clothes you can exercise in and bring a large towel and a pillow.
Cost $450 per couple morning tea provided
Launching August 2020 –
The 3rd and 4th trimester online course.
This Course includes all topics covered in the birth skills workshop in greater detail for you to work through in your own time with your partner.
